The Arizona Cardinals made an official announcement on Tuesday that they have appointed Jonathan Gannon, the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, as their new head coach.
Following the conclusion of the press conference, the AZ Cardinals’ social media team was able to capture some footage of Gannon’s first interactions with the players…and some of it was cringey to watch.

It’s understandable that the wait for a new Cardinals head coach took some time, given that the person who ultimately got the job had been occupied until recently. Jonathan Gannon, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, had a hectic week that culminated in his appointment to the Cardinals.
Despite preparing and coaching in the Super Bowl until Sunday, he managed to find time for an interview with Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill and GM Monti Ossenfort on Monday, ultimately agreeing to a five-year contract on Tuesday.
Gannon said, “It means a lot to me that the players are here and I’ve connected with a lot of these guys already. You’re going to hear me say a lot the players—just because of the seat I’m in, they have to understand and know that you care about them as people first before players.”
“You’ll hear me say servant leadership a lot, Michael and I connected on servant leadership because we’re both Jesuit educated, but I truly believe that. That’s what we’re here to do. We had a welcome party this morning and everybody in this building, no matter what job they do for the Cardinals, whether you’re the offensive coordinator, the ticket sales manager, or the marketing director, you have a specific role to serve the players that we have for us.”
